Problems With the Pond
Small
pond liner is defective

A bubble showed up within a couple of months of installation and has steadily grown. It is now above the surface of the water. Liner bubbles like this are usually caused by decomposing organic matter that gives off carbon dioxide or methane gas. Since the gas has nowhere to go, it creates an air bubble. Proper preparation of the liner bed would have averted the problem.
Gravity and foot traffic are pulling the
rocks down, into
the
pond and exposing the liner. In places, the rocks are actually working
themselves underneath the liner. A properly installed pond liner
is not
retained in place by the weight of river rocks and normally is anchored
at the top of the bank rather than at the bottom of it. This will be a
continuous problem.

Large pond retaining wall support is
eroding away
Now that the water has receded, the
damage to the south wall from over filling the pond is readily
apparent. Water has eroded the bank behind the blocks and eroded the
earth from underneath it. You can see the degree of settlement in the
second blocks from each side of the second photo. The retaining wall
was never
built with the
intent that it function as a sea wall. It is now only a matter of time
until the wall sinks to the point where it has to be replaced.
